Fawley Power Station chimney is no more!
It was demolished by explosive charges at 0700 GMT this morning (31 Oct 2021). The weather was foul, but thousands turned out of bed early to view the spectacle. There were traffic jams in Warsash and along the coast as people flocked to witness the end of this 50 years old icon of the Solent.
At 198-metre (650 ft) high, it was visible for many miles around, and has appeared in many a yachtsman’s passage plan.
